I guess this is RIM giving the BlackBerry Bold line a blast to the past. They have announced the new BlackBerry Bold 9788 together with China Mobile today. Its the first BlackBerry to support the Chinese TD-SCDMA network though I cannot quite make out what device it is. It looks like it is a rebuild of the 9700 for China Mobile since it has 256MB of RAM instead of the 9780’s 512MB. Its also shipping with BlackBerry OS 6.

Check out the press release below or the BlackBerry Bold 9788 page on RIM’s China website if you can read it! Either way it is coming this month.

Waterloo, ON and Beijing, China – Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) and China Mobile today introduced the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9788 smartphone, the newest addition to China Mobile’s BlackBerry® smartphone offering and the first to support the nation’s TD-SCDMA wireless network.

Seeking Advice - Buying a Prepaid SIM card

2006-02-06 23:30:29 by EternalRecycler

Got a Samsung phone from a FOAFOAF that was apparently used in Asia - the numerical dial tones can be spoken in Mandarin Chinese and there's what looks like a Mandarin Chinese text editor built inside.
However, the SIM card's a T-Mobile, so I'm thinking this phone *was* used in North America.
I'd like to buy a prepaid SIM card for my own use, but I'm not sure about the things I should look for when I'm shopping around. I just know there are quite a few CL ads for PP SIM cards.
I'm not sure if my internaional phone would pose a problem in terms of compatibility with the North American wireless network

I want to trade up the Curve for the Torch. I have T-mobile, but the Torch is exclusive to ATT, therefore I would need an unlocked Torch.

    • You can get a Blackberry Torch from AT&T, on regular the Torch 9800 will have the Network locked to AT&T. In other words, the Blackberry 9800 Torch from AT&T can be used with their sim cards but if you will use other SIM card on that device it will not get signal - because it s locked to AT&T. Some people want to use the Blackberry Torch 9800 with other GSM carriers such as T-Mobile. Vodafone, Orange, Virgin. O2 …
